If you read it on the Internet it must be true, right? OK, maybe not. Your best bet is to know --and evaluate-- the sources for information you find online. For this blog I'm that source.*
My name is Kent Stanton. If I had to pick one thing to describe what I do I would call myself a software developer. I like programming and I would spend much of my time writing code even if I won the lottery (which I don't play, very bad odds...). In any case, people pay me to write software and I've been at it for a while. Much of the work I've done has involved GIS, data visualization or data analysis in one way or another.
However, perhaps the most important thing to know about me is that I've taught college GIS and programming courses for nearly 10 years. That experience gives me a perspective on the topics and issues that get in the way of turning geodata into answers to important questions. Which is why I'm doing this. I want to share what I've learned so that you all can find answers to important questions. God knows we've got enough of them.
* If I'm not the source I'll let you know. Giving credit where it is due is something that I take seriously but it's really just a question of playing nicely with others. I like sharing, so you can use anything you find on this blog under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license. Basically, give credit where it makes sense and don't claim that you wrote it if I wrote it.
